What if customers could design their dream dock right in their browser?
ShoreMaster, a leading U.S. dock and boat lift supplier since 1972, needed a way for customers to explore designs before purchase. We built the Dockbuilder WebGL app, with 40+ components, 9 deck styles, and a virtual lake allowing users to drag, snap, and visualize docks in real time, boosting sales and reducing returns.
The Process
The Dockbuilder was developed as a browser-based WebGL app in Unity, giving users a simple but powerful way to design docks online.
Accurate 3D Modeling
Recreated 40+ ShoreMaster dock components in Blender, scaled precisely to real-world dimensions across 9 deck styles.
Custom Snapping System
Built a custom snapping tool so ramps, docks, and lifts connect seamlessly, mimicking real modular assembly.
Users can visualize custom options before ordering
Virtual Lake Environment
Designed an interactive water scene where users could experiment with layouts and visualize docks in context.
Scalability
With thousands of possible configurations, the system had to remain performant and intuitive, even with complex designs.
The Dockbuilder has become a featured tool on ShoreMaster’s website, used by hundreds of customers nationwide. By letting users design and preview their docks online, the app increased sales, reduced returns, and positioned ShoreMaster as an innovator in the waterfront industry. For a company already recognized as one of America’s largest dock suppliers, this digital tool provided a modern way to connect with customers and simplify a traditionally complex purchase.
